The Pradhan Mantri Shram Yogi Maan-dhan (PM-SYM) is a voluntary, contributory pension scheme launched in 2019 by the Ministry of Labour & Employment. The scheme is administered by LIC and CSC SPV and it is designed for unorganised workers and provides ₹3,000 of pension from the age of 60 and 50% family pension to the spouse of a subscriber after death.
Who Is Eligible?
- Age: 18-40 years
- Income: ≤ ₹15,000/month
Which Professions Are Covered?
Must be an unorganised worker, not covered under EPF/ESIC/NPS or income tax
Includes all types of unorganised work:
- Street vendor, rickshaw puller, rag-picker.
- Brick kiln, constructor, agricultural worker.
- Cobblers, washer-men, house help, beedi workers, handloom workers.
- Leather, audio visual, home-based, landless workers, etc.
How Much to Contribute?

How to Enrol?
- Go to a Common Service Centre (CSC) with your Aadhaar, savings/Jan-Dhan account and mobile number.
- Fill in self-certified details; you will be required to make the first payment in cash.
- Set your auto-debit for subsequent contributions.
- You will receive a Shram Yogi card which will have a unique pension account number.
- Eligible subscribers can enroll online via the Maandhan portal/app.
Exit and Withdrawal Rules
- Before 10 years’ exit receive your contributions with savings bank interest.
- After 10 years but before 60 years refundable, whichever is higher bank interest or returns on the fund.
If a subscriber is dead or disabled the spouse may continue or withdraw the fund. If the spouse is also deceased, the amount returns to the corpus of the scheme fund.
