From Streets to Screens: PCMC Empowers Workers with ‘Ata Thambaycha Naay

In a heartfelt initiative to recognise and uplift sanitation workers, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) organised a special screening of the Marathi film Ata Thambaycha Naay. Held in Pimpri under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the screening aimed to inspire these frontline workers and underscore the importance of education in their lives.

The municipal health department put together the event as part of PCMC efforts to improve employees’ productivity and mental health. The dignitaries who enjoyed the award presentation on the day included Deputy Commissioner Anna Bodde, Sachin Pawar, Chief Security Officer Uday Jarande and Chief Health Inspector Shriram Gaikwad and reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to the welfare of workers.

Famous actor Bharat Jadhav is featured in the film and was also there and delivered an inspiring message. “Sanitation workers are the real heroes. I may have acted a part, but they go through the fight every single day. This is not just cinema, but really it’s a celebration of the courageous efforts of ordinary people trying to gain an education,” Jadhav said, acknowledging their perseverance and spirit.

The screening has provided Deputy Commissioner Sachin Pawar the opportunity to shine a spotlight on the unsung yet active work of sanitation workers. “The film portrays the difficulties faced by sanitation workers and acknowledges their contribution to society and fosters respect, awareness and self-respect,” he said.

The event came to a close with a cleanliness pledge, with Jadhav leading the attendees in a commitment to maintain a cleaner community and harmony among residents through respectfulness. In a wonderful mix of entertainment and empowerment, PCMC has continued to set a standard in celebrating the unsung heroes of urban life.
