The Meghalaya government has adjusted the minimum wage system across the state to enhance daily wages across all categories of workers. A notification from the Labour Department states that the revised rates are applicable from April 1, 2025 in respect to 29 scheduled employment categories including agriculture, construction, mining, domestic work, tailoring, public carriage, workshops, casual labour in government service, etc.
What Are the New Minimum Wages?
The pay raise includes a Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) that will adjust to inflation. The new wage details are:

Who Does This Apply To?
The new wages are applicable in many sectors including:
- Agriculture and sericulture.
- Domestic and tailoring work.
- Construction and Extraction industries.
- Transportation Services for Travelling Passengers and Licensed Industrial Added-Area Factories.
- Casual or On-Call work under Government Entities.
What Else Should Workers Know?
- A work day of 8 hours/day, 5 days/week and 48 hours/week will not change.
- All workers will receive one paid day of rest weekly.
- Paid double the normal rate.
- Wage rates will be reviewed for changes every six months based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) .
This wage increase provides a fairer wage for workers across Meghalaya and reflects the state’s attempt to match increasing living costs.
