In a move intended to strengthen diplomatic relations and convenience of travel, the Maldives and Commonwealth of Dominica have now signed a visa waiver agreement that allows citizens of both countries to travel for a period of 30 days without a visa.
The “Agreement on Mutual Exemption of Visa Requirements for their Respective Citizens” was signed in New York. Dr. Ali Naseer Mohamed, Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations represented the Maldives. Dr. Philbert Aaron, Permanent Representative of Dominica to the UN, represented Dominica. The signing ceremony was hosted at the Permanent Mission of Maldives in New York.
Travel Made Easier for Both Nations
Maldivian passport holders can now enjoy visa-free access to Dominica and the same goes for Dominican citizens visiting the Maldives.This move is likely to enhance greater movement of people and strengthen ties between two island nations.
The Maldives’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that this development will streamline the travel process and provide potential for new cultural and economic opportunities.
This enhances the ever expanding global mobility of the Maldivian passport. According to the Henley & Partners Passport Index, it is the most powerful passport in South Asia with over 90 countries providing visa free or visa on arrival access.
