Just Stop Oil – the British group famous for its protests against climate change – has decided to change tactics after a final protest in London next month. The group said that it had met its primary goal of stopping further oil and gas licensing in Britain.

Just Stop Oil climate campaigners are going to regroup soon to plan their next phase of actions. This group made headlines beginning in 2022 for hurling tomato soup at Vincent van Gogh’s painting and smashing the glass that protected Diego Velázquez’s ‘Rockeby Venus’.

The group has said that it used the tactics to highlight the urgency of climate change and bring attention to the political and social changes needed to tackle the problem. The climate crisis has turned into one of the greatest threats to humankind.

Just Stop Oil has disrupted sporting events, too. Politicians, museum managers and many other people on social media have condemned the group’s actions. In Britain, former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and incumbent PM Keir Starmer have also raised concerns.
