Illegal immigration and donkey route back in the limelight as agent arrested

For the crime of facilitating illegal immigration abroad, a 43-year-old resident of Punjab has been arrested. He is the sixth such agent to be arrested this year. Last year, 21 agents got arrested for the serious offense.

On December 14, Maninder Pal Singh, 20, got deported from the US. He had been trying to enter the US to earn easy money. In 2023, he came across an agent Mandeep and asked him to arrange his journey to the country. He paid a fee of Rs 41 lakh.

The passenger departed India in October 2023 and reached the US in late 2024 after passing through multiple countries, such as Kazakhstan, Dubai, Senegal, Libya, Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala and Mexico.

Singh – after reaching the US – got rid of some pages from his passport containing the fake stamps. But he got caught by US authorities. He got deported back to India after remaining in detention for a couple of months.
