IBM Cuts 9,000 US Jobs Over Cloud Division Restructuring

Through a strategic business reorganization IBM has started dismissing 9,000 staff members throughout the United States. The layoffs spread across all IBM departments but the Cloud Classic unit suffered the biggest impact when it lost about one-fourth of its employees according to The Register.

IBM lays off staff from all Cloud Classic assisting teams as well as workers at consulting, CSR, cloud infrastructure, sales, and CIO reporting departments. Reports show the IBM Cloud division received a 10% reduction in staff alongside the rest of the Cloud group.

IBM chooses to shift positions to India since it forms a key element of its new operational plans according to industry analysts. IBM keeps information about employee layoffs private yet the reported 9,000 job cuts show the company needs to resize its US workforce significantly.
