Human rights are not only international principles or laws they are values that have to influence our treatment of others in our everyday lives. Human rights awareness starts at our day-to-day activities by respecting the opinion of others to the aspect of equality at home and in our communities. These rights can also be understood and exercised in our life to make the society a just, humane, and respectful place. We can create the positive change by starting at our homes because as human beings, we are entitled to dignity, safety, and freedom. So, how does the awareness of human rights affect our behavior, relationships, and social well-being in general?
Human rights awareness begins at family level. Respecting all members of a family, irrespective of their age or gender, sets the stage of equality in the society.
Promote home and work place communication. Hearing the voices of others fosters tolerance, acceptance of others and emotional stability.
Basic gestures such as division of household duties or funding of women education strengthen equality and respect; which are major pillars of human rights.
Children learn by example. Teaching them of being good, just, and respectful of others contribute towards creating a generation that is sensitive to human rights.
Discrimination is a form of infringement of the fundamental human rights whether founded on religion, gender, caste or race. Raise your voice and encourage integration within your society.
Among the human rights is the right to live with dignity and safety. Action to defend the vulnerable population like women, children and the elderly.
Respecting human rights also has the aspect of caring about your community and your environment. The responsible behavior would lead to a just and green tomorrow.
Knowing your rights can make you rise to injustice. It is also vital to respect the rights of other people to ensure that there is peace and justice.
