greater noida indian farmers protest for justice and fair compensation
Thousands of farmers from across Uttar Pradesh on Monday protested for their unresolved land acquisition concerns as they assembled outside the Greater Noida authority office. The agitation featured demands for justice and fair compensation.
Spearheaded by the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) and supported by a couple of other major farmer unions, the farmers protest included demands for the right compensation, including 10% developed land and 64.7% enhanced compensation for acquired land.
Farmers from around 20 districts in Uttar Pradesh, including Gautam Budh Nagar and Bulandshahr, joined the protest on Monday that initially featured a tractor rally in the morning, triggering minor traffic disruptions despite sizeable police deployment.
Monday’s fierce demonstration came after months of small-scale protests outside the Greater Noida authority office. Farmers are claiming that the earlier protests did not yield tangible results. The movement has united numerous farmer organisations.
Rupesh Verma, District President at Kisan Sabha, highlighted that farmers sacrificed their agricultural lands to build the modern city, but got just broken promises and unfulfilled commitments in return.
