The Government of Goa has modified its Retirement Benefit Scheme for Anganwadi Helpers and Anganwadi Workers by amending the retirement age and also increased benefits. The amendment retrospectively effective from 1st May 2024 which is designed to enhance job security and recognize the critical roles that grassroots female workers play in the welfare of the public.
What Is the New Retirement Age?
Anganwadi Workers and Helpers will now be able to retire at the age of 62, rather than the previous retirement age of 60. However, those who are over 60 will need to pass a medical fitness test at a government hospital in order to be able to continue their service. The new rule applies to those who would have reached the age of retirement on or after April 30, 2024.
When Will Retirement Take Effect?
The date of retirement is standardized to April 30 each year.
For employees born in the month of January, February, March or April, retirement occurs that year.
For employees born in the month of May to December, retirement occurs on April 30 the following year.
What Are the Financial Benefits?
Superannuation benefits:
- Anganwadi Workers can now expect a one time retirement benefit of INR 5 lakh.
- Anganwadi Helpers can now expect a one time benefit of INR 3 lakh.
- If they are declared medically unfit at 60, they will still receive a benefit.
