Germany Welcomes Labour Migration and Restricts Illegal Immigration

Labour Deal

Germany and Kenya had agreed to sign agreements which allowed the citizens of Kenya to enter Germany under the labor migration. Also, Germany planned to constrain the arrival of illegal immigration at the border. The agreement was called the Labour Deal and it was signed by Germany’s Chancellor Olaf Scholz and William Ruto, the President of Kenya in Berlin.

“There is no country in the world with a shrinking working population that has economic growth. That is the truth we are confronted with”, said by Olaf Scholz, German Chancellor.

The major motive behind signing these agreements is to compensate for the shortage of skilled workers in Germany by permitting the non-Europeans through the Labour Migration agreement. Germany Chancellor Olaf Scholz said,

“This agreement can help us to compensate for a shortage of skilled workers”.

It is a strategic partnership between the two nations Germany and Kenya. Kenya also faces the rapid growth of the youth population, which results in unemployment in the society. This Labour migration serves as a mutually beneficial solution. The German government had agreed to permit 250,000 skilled and semi-skilled workers from Kenya into their country. The citizens of Kenya are benefited with the opportunities of employment, vocational training, and long-term residence in Germany. The sectors which are in need of skilled and semi-skilled workers are IT and nursing. It has been reported that already 5 bus drivers were permitted to begin their works in Flensburg, Northern Germany.

The agreement strongly launches the border tightening to restrict the rise of illegal immigration into Germany. The major reasons behind the illegal immigration of Kenyan citizens are poverty, economic and health challenges, corruption, unemployment, poor housing, and starvation. To seek a better life the people of Kenya flee as illegal immigrants to many other countries. Through this agreement the German government has agreed to deport the asylum seekers and undocumented immigrants, who are residing in Germany. It is also a part of maintaining orderly migration and reducing labour exploitation.

Labour migration agreement elevates the career of the citizens of Kenya who are both skilled and semi-skilled in a foreign land.

Additional Features of Labour Migration Agreement

  • Protects the migrants’ rights and welfare
  • Ethical recruitment
  • Protects against labour exploitation
  • Orderly migration process
  • Safe environment

“On the expiry of the long-stay visa, Kenyans may receive a temporary residence permit for study purposes in Germany for up to two years”, the agreement states.
