The Spanish government has officially launched a historic Extraordinary Regularization program, offering a path to legal status for approximately 500,000 undocumented residents. This project tries to put the workers on the formal economy and strengthen social security. To qualify, one has to demonstrate that he or she lived in Spain prior to December 31, 2025, at least five months and have a clean criminal record. The applications will be opened at the beginning of April 2026 and there will be a hard deadline of June 30. This is a one-time window offering a one-year work permit and residency and greatly simplifies the transition process of thousands of families who are currently registered in administrative limbo.

Key Eligibility for Extraordinary Regularization

To qualify for the Extraordinary Regularization, applicants must meet three core criteria. To start with, you have to demonstrate that you have lived in Spain at least 5 months before the cutoff of the year 2025. Second, a certified certificate that indicates that you have no criminal history in your country of origin and Spain is required. Finally, those asylum seekers who submitted their claims before the deadline are also qualified.

Documenting Your Stay for Extraordinary Regularization

The most important is to prove your stay. The government will accept any of the documents such as Empadronamiento (town hall registration), medical records, or utility bills. The need to collect these evidences at this time is because due to the large number of applicants there could be delays in the local processing offices as soon as the portal is opened in April this year.
