DeepSeek’s AI Assistant Surpasses ChatGPT on Apple’s App Store

DeepSeek emerged as the number one free application available through Apple’s App Store in the United States given its performance ahead of leader ChatGPT. The DeepSeek-V3 model powered application debuted on January 10 and its developers say the model surpasses open-source competitors while being competitive with top closed-source alternatives.

DeepSeek came to the star in 2023, despite the fact that its arrival hasn’t been proven, and its beat grinds out U.S. dominance in artificial intelligence innovation. And for the modest price of under $6 million those H800 Nvidia chips used in DeepSeek’s model were made possible by Chinese import restrictions on Washington’s banned advanced technology chips. DeepSeek testing, they say, is the success that challenges current U.S. export regulation policies.

The breakthrough by China is their first shot of industry wide U.S. tech sector recognition of an AI model that beats American models. The development of AI at Baidu has encouraged Chinese companies to start building their AI models while China generally goes ahead in development of AI.
