The legislature of Connecticut has planned to move forward with the bill that would provide unemployment benefits to the people who are unemployed and to the workers who are on strike for more than two weeks. Senate Democrats and Labor Unions are backing this proposal of Senate Bill 8 to support the employees facing financial hardship during the disputes.
This bill has been previously vetoed by Governor Lamount but it is now signaled openness if clearer guidelines are included. The supporters are arguing the policy strengthens collective bargaining, especially during the time where the federal protections are eroding. The opposers claim that such unemployment benefits are applicable for the one who loses their jobs but not for the one who stops working and goes on a strike while working.
