What is Ayushman Bharat Health Card for Workers?
The Ayushman Bharat Health Card is a part of Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) the world’s largest government funded health assurance scheme to date. It provides cashless hospitalization coverage of up to INR 5 lakh per family per year for poor and vulnerable Indian households including households with workers from multiple occupations.
Who is Eligible for Ayushman Bharat Health Card as a Worker?
Ayushman Bharat classifies eligible households as per Socio-Economic Caste Census (SECC) 2011 and classifies urban sector workers in different roles.
Eligible Urban Workers for the Scheme are:
- Ragpickers & Beggars.
- Domestic Workers.
- Street Vendors, Cobblers, Hawkers.
- Construction Workers, Masons, Painters, Plumbers, Welders, etc.
- Guards, Coolies & Head-load Workers.
- Sanitary Workers, Sweepers and Gardeners (Mali).
- Artisans, Tailors, Handicrafts Workers, Home Based Workers.
- Drivers, Conductors, Rickshaw Pullers, Cart Pullers.
- Shop Assistants, Delivery Helpers, Waiters.
- Electricians, Mechanics, Assemblers, Repairman.
- Washermen, Chowkidars.
These valid Urban Workers, if found in the occupational criteria as per the SECC database are eligible for the health card.
What Are the Benefits of the Ayushman Bharat Health Card?
Beneficiaries are entitled to complete health coverage in registered secondary and tertiary care hospitals, coming under PM-JAY in both public and private domains.

- Annual cover of INR 5,00,000 per family (no ceiling on family size or age).
- Cashless & paperless treatment at empaneled hospitals.
- Covers pre-existing diseases from day one.
- No out of pocket on the listed procedures.
- Cover for costs involved during hospitalization including ICU, diagnostics, implants and medicines.
- 15 days of post-hospitalization care.
- Accommodation & food service during the patient’s treatment.
What Conditions Are Covered Under the Scheme?
The plan consists of 1,500+ medical and surgical packages for serious illnesses including:
- Heart surgeries.
- Cancer treatments.
- Kidney and liver diseases.
- Accident & trauma care.
- Maternity & child health services.
- Orthopedic & neurosurgery procedures.
How to Apply for Ayushman Bharat Health Card Offline?
Workers can apply for the Ayushman Bharat Health Card through a local hospital or Common Service Centre (CSC). Here is a step by step application process
- Go to a CSC or hospital and ask for an Arogya Mitra.
- Provide them with your ID details (PM letter, RSBY URN, ration card or your mobile number).
- The operator searches for your name in the Beneficiary Identification System.
- Provide your ID proof (Aadhaar/PAN) and family document (ration card or similar).
- They will scan and upload your documents for both the individual and family.
- Eventually the insurance company or State Health Agency will approve or reject.
- If approved, your Ayushman Bharat e-card for cashless treatment will reach you.
What Documents Are Required to Apply?

- Aadhaar Card or PAN Card (ID & Age Proof).
- Address Proof.
- Mobile Number & Email ID.
- Caste Certificate.
- Income Certificate.
- Proof of Family Structure (Joint/Nuclear Family).
- Ration Card for family verification purposes.
