By the end of the new contract, the average UPS full-time driver will make about $170,000 annually in pay and benefits, says UPS CEO Carol Tome. Part-time union employees will make at least $25.75 per hour, in addition to full health care and pension benefits.

The Sean O’Brien-led Teamsters bureaucracy and the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) applauded this contract agreement, a “five-year labor contract, as historic”. This agreement helped UPS and the US economy avoid a potentially crippling blow to the United States’ logistics network. In an official statement, Teamsters said the tentative agreement features more than 60 total changes and improvements to the National Master Agreement. O’Brien said Teamster labor moves America. “The union went into this fight committed to winning for our members. We demanded the best contract in the history of UPS, and we got it.”

Tome, during the earnings call on Tuesday, said when you look at the total compensation, by the end of the new contract, the average UPS full-time driver will make about $170,000 annually in pay and benefits. “And for all part-time union employees that are already working at UPS, by the end of this contract, they will be making at least $25.75 per hour while receiving full health care and pension benefits.” As part of the new agreement, existing part-timers will be raised up to no less than $21 per hour immediately.

Working conditions are also expected to improve as UPS and Teamsters reached an agreement on air conditioning measures, including air conditioning and every new US package car starting in January 2024. However, not everyone is happy. Some young workers at UPS said it’s not guaranteed that they are still going to be with the company in the span of five years. “I think we should be making between $27 and $35. In this day and age, it’s really hard to try and get by. You can’t live somewhere without having to pay an arm and a leg. I do think it would be a positive incentive to give it their all to be able to make a real living.”
