tesla to raise pay for hourly nevada gigafactory workers; see details
Tesla, an American multinational automotive and clean energy company, is set to raise pay for the set-rate hourly workers in January. Electric vehicle (EV) maker Tesla Inc will increase the pay for hourly workers from $20 to $22 an hour on the low end starting early January.
According to a CNBC report, the EV maker will bump the pay to $34.50 an hour from $30.65 on the high end. The pay raise can add anywhere from $2 to $8.30 an hour to their wages.
The company informed Tesla workers at its battery factory in Sparks, Nevada, that some set-rate hourly workers will witness pay increases around 10% starting in early January 2024.
According to internal materials seen by CNBC, the $26.20 and $30.65 an hour at present will be adjusted to $34.50 an hour.
The hourly wages will be increased for Tesla workers in Nevada, a state in the Western region of the United States. The pay raise may help the Tesla company stave off workers’ interest in forming a union. They may not push for a collective wage agreement in Nevada.
Previously, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said at the New York Times DealBook Summit last month, “I disagree with the idea of unions.”
In November, Tesla announced wage increase for German workers. The company announced a 4% wage raise for German workers amid union pressure. Tesla management in Germany informed workers that they would receive a 4% wage raise.
Tesla workers in Germany said that they had “lower wages.” The workers also complained that they do not have the same insurance or pensions like other industry workers in Germany.
In October, Tesla workers’ strike was held in Sweden after the company refused to sign a collective wage agreement. Tesla workers’ strike affected around Tesla’s 130 mechanics at seven workshops across Sweden.
