paris 2024 imane khelif's gender identification under scrutiny after medical report leaked
Paris Olympics 2024 has been marred by another controversy. In a surprising turn of events on Tuesday, the gender identification of boxer Imane Khelif – the recipient of a Gold medal – has come under further scrutiny.
This comes due to a leaked medical report. The document mentions that Khelif has internal testicles and XY chromosomes, hinting at a disorder called 5-alpha reductase insufficiency. Experts drafted the report in June 2023.
The report describes the boxer’s biological traits, such as the absence of a uterus and the presence of internal testicles. In addition, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) revealed the existence of a micropenis in her body, reported Redux.
The revelation has brought more controversy to the Paris Olympics. But it is nothing fresh as it’s been already reported that Imane Khelif has XY chromosomes. Back in 2023, the international boxing association banned the player from participating in a championship.
In response to the gender dispute, Khelif had previously stated that she is qualified. She claimed that the controversy sparked by former US President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk had impacted her significantly, reported Hindustan Times.
The player even named Musk in a criminal complaint filed to French authorities over alleged “acts of aggravated cyber harassment”. Earlier, Republican leaders in the US noted that they are not going to permit men to participate in female-only sports.
