Swiss Solar Panel manufacturer Meyer Burger has rolled out a significant initiative of deducting the working hours for about 300 employees who are working at the solar cell plant in Thalheim, Germany. This announcement will come into effect from 1 May 2025 due to the temporary material shortages affecting the production.
The company will implement a short-time work which is named as “Kurzarbeit”, this indicates a labor measure that allows reduced hours while maintaining employment and managing the operational costs during the disruption. Similarly, some of the changes have been made at the Meyer Burger which is a U.S. facility located in Goodyear, Arizona. This change includes altering the tasks between the technical and solar module production. Meyer Burger emphasized that the measures are for a short period which aims to adapt to the ongoing supply chain challenges. This alteration showcases the broader issues encountered by the renewable energy manufacturers and global material bottlenecks. Although, Meyer Burger remains committed to its operations and workforce, despite the setbacks.
