Let's understand impact of IBM layoffs on India's job market
Tech giant IBM is in the process of firing around 9,000 employees in the US in 2025. This restructuring effort is affecting multiple sections in the US, including the company’s Cloud Classic unit, according to sources.
But there is one more important thing to ponder about. The latest phase of IBM layoffs is likely to bring big changes to the Indian job market. The company has been steadily shifting roles to India and this round of restructuring is no different.
It has been reported that IBM currently has far more job openings in India than in the US. But this does not appear as a surprising fact because India has abundant talent and operating costs in the country are also significantly less.
If these transitions play out as expected, Indian tech employees – especially those in cloud, infrastructure, consulting and sales sectors – are likely to see more job opportunities open up. Indian IT professionals may soon find greater demand for their efforts.
