On Saturday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s home in Caesarea apparently became the target of a drone attack. The politician’s spokesperson soon confirmed that he’s not in the vicinity and there had been no casualties in the incident.

Netanyahu had not been at the location and there are no injuries reported from the attack, the prime minister’s office said in a statement. Earlier, the Israeli military said that the drone had been launched from Lebanon and it had hit a building.

The drone attack has not been claimed by Hezbollah or any other militant group. Israel and the Hamas ally group in Lebanon have been trading fire for a long time. The Israeli military sent ground troops across the Lebanese border last month.

Middle East crisis likely to see further intensification

The drone attack on Saturday comes just a day after Israel said it had destroyed Hezbollah’s regional command centre. Since late September 2024, the brutal conflict has left more than 1,400 people dead in Lebanon, although the real figure is likely to be higher.

The raging Middle East crisis is likely to see further intensification after the recent killing of Hamas leader in an Israeli operation in southern Gaza. Yahya Sinar took over as head of the group after the killing of its leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, Iran.

On October 7, 2023, Hamas militants launched a surprise attack on Israeli cities, killing some 1,200 people and taking more than 250 others hostages. Israel’s retaliatory strikes, on the other hand, have claimed tens of thousands of Palestinian lives to date.
