Is global politics getting you exhausted? It is time to settle in a stunning paradise of Sardinia

Ollolai – a beautiful village on the Italian island of Sardinia – seems to have sniffed a potential opportunity out of the recent US presidential election outcome. Donald Trump has been elected as the next President, defeating Kamala Harris of the Democratic Party.

Like many other places in rural Italy, Ollolai has long been trying to persuade outsiders to move in to revive the place after decades of depopulation. It has been selling dilapidated houses for as little as €1 – just a little more than $1.

In the past century, Ollolai’a population has shrunk from 2,250 to 1,300. Many families left the village during tough economic conditions, in search of jobs and better lives. Over the last handful of years, the population has further dropped to just 1,150.

Ollolai to offer US citizens a fast-track procedure

Ollolai launched a site after the US presidential election in an effort to lure in potential US expatriates, offering up more cheap homes in the hope that those disappointed by the result are going to snap up one of its empty properties.

Mayor Francesco Columbu told CNN that people from other countries can also apply but US citizens are going to have a fast-track procedure. He said he has set up a special team to guide interested buyers through every step of the purchase.

Ollolai on the Italian island of Sardinia is offering three tiers of accomodation – free temporary homes to certain digital nomads, one-euro homes in need of renovations, and ready-to-occupy houses for prices up to €100,000 ($105,000).
