Infosys mass layoff: Centre steps in as sacked employees petition PMO
Earlier this month, India’s IT giant Infosys faced strong criticism for laying off more than 300 freshers at its Mysuru campus for failing to clear internal assessments after their foundational training. These employees had joined the company in October 2024.
The IT employees’ union, NITES, demanded strict action against Infosys, alleging that the company had summoned employees to meeting rooms and pressurised them to sign “mutual separation” letters. But the Chief Human Resources Officer has dismissed these claims.
More than 100 of the sacked Infosys employees recently sent complaint letters to the Prime Minister’s Office. The letters urged the Centre to consider their reinstatement and take measures to stop such incidents from happening in the future, as per reports.
The Central Labour Ministry has sent another notice to the Karnataka state’s labour commissioner requesting to step in. This issue is making headlines across the globe as a string of layoffs happen in different countries.
