Documents released on Saturday indicate that the Indian government will dedicate ₹4.57 trillion ($52.81 billion) as subsidies for food distribution and rural employment together with fertilizer subsidies during the upcoming financial year. The fiscal estimates demonstrate no significant alteration between this upcoming period and the present fiscal year which stands at ₹4.54 trillion.
Legislative allocations for food subsidies reached ₹2.03 trillion during this budget period although the estimate for the current financial year amounted to ₹1.97 trillion. The current budget cuts fertiliser subsidy amount to ₹1.67 trillion which shows a slight decrease from ₹1.71 trillion in the previous budget. MGNREGA operates as the primary rural employment program and has received a budget of ₹860 billion.
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman delivered the budget despite economic slowdowns reduced urban spending and investor conservatism. The rural economy which obtains substantial benefits from these subsidies demonstrates initial indications of returning to normal health.

In December 2024 the unemployment rate in India recorded 7.8% as reported by the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy following 7.7% in November.
