Hundreds of Financial Jobs in BNY in Wexford is at risk

The BNY (Bank of New York) Mellon Corporation is an American Financial Services company which was established in 2007 in New York initially and other branches are located in the other places like Weford, Dublin, and Cork. The information which has been shared by the department of Enterprise, Trade, and Employment states that around 300 jobs of the employees in the BNY Mellon in Wexford are at risk due to the global review of real estate assets of the company.

“My department understands, however, that there will be options for redundancy, virtual working and relocating to Dublin. Our thoughts are with the affected workers at this difficult time, and I can confirm that all available support from government and from our agency the IDA will be made available to impacted staff” said Peter Burke, the Minister of Enterprise, Trade and Employment.

But, the complete revelation of the global review and its impact on the jobs of hundreds of employees will be confirmed tomorrow morning as stated in the Journal. Meanwhile, the representative of Laborers has planned to insist the new government to assure security to the employees if it impacts hundreds of jobs.

“Tomorrow will bring the long-sought after clarity for the workers who have had to listen to rumours about the future of BNY Mellon for many many months now” George Lawlor, the Labour TD

“There is a highly skilled and qualified workforce that operates in Wexford. If tomorrow’s news is to the contrary then there must be interventions from the new minister and I will be calling on them to urgently visit Wexford to address the situation” he added.

While the controversy is going on about what will happen to them in the upcoming days, some of the statements shared by the Financial Services Union (FSU) in which some people from the BNY company and they told that there was no proper information has been shared to the employees till now. The risk of jobs and its consequences has shocked many of the employees who are unaware of it.

“This is a huge blow and will be a significant loss for Wexford. We have a highly skilled, highly educated, and talented workforce here in the country, and losing these jobs will impact not just the employees but their families as well” – George Lawlor, the Labour TD
