Game Industry’s First Major Union Launches at GDC 2025

During the 2025 Game Developer Conference in San Francisco, the United Videogame Workers Union officially launched on Wednesday as a historic catalyst for the gaming business. All video game providers accepted their first employee union under joint support from CWA and AFM.

The union formed during a significant time for gaming after two years of staff cuts made people afraid that artificial intelligence tools would harm game developer positions. By receiving members from all gaming industry sectors, UVW-CWA safeguards the rights of every employee involved in video game creation.

The union declares in its official document that businesses should develop employees to make long-term value instead of simply seeking short-term profits. The organization defends every person working in the game industry who lost their employment and lets workers make up restaurant species for employment terms.
