French Labor Minister Astrid Proposed the Retirees to Contribute for the Social Security

A huge wave of debates and arguments are widening after the proposal of French Labor Minister Astrid who said that the retirees who are earning more than 2000 euros will have to contribute to the social security of the nation. This proposal targets the wealthy retirees whose income could share the burden of funding social programs, rising healthcare costs, and pension expenses. Meanwhile, some of the individuals are dissatisfied with this announcement and they claim that the contribution which they have given during their working years under the assumptions of fixed benefits.

“For all retirees, it’s the same rule. Because if we start touching a pension level, the door is open and little by little we’re going to abuse it and go towards the weakest pensioners” said French Labor Minister Astrid.

The left-leaning parties, social justice advocates, are supporting the proposal because it falls under the principle of wealth redistribution. The strong opposition is argued consistently by the right-wing parties and claim the previous contributions given by the retirees. The perception towards this proposal has diverse versions and it could get the form of a polarized issue in the upcoming elections.

“Taxing retirees who have a pension of 2,000 euros is totally scandalous. If this is in the budget… I am in favor of not letting it pass” said RN Vice-President Sebastien Chenu.
