Google Chrome on iOS Adds Smart Tools for Work Life Balance – Here’s What’s New

Google is releasing a big update to Chrome on iOS that will help users better maintain a work life balance after hours, especially for “bring your own device” (BYOD) users. The new Chrome update comes with smarter account switching capabilities and advanced enterprise grade protections, allowing users to easily distinguish their work browsing activity from their personal browsing activity.

Seamless Account Switching and Data Separation

The key update allows smooth transitions between Personal Accounts and Managed (work) Accounts on Google without mixing up data, with the tabs, history and passwords housed appropriately separate and isolated from each other. So if a user transitions states, the browsing experience that is work related will not appear in the personal profile and the opposite will occur too.

When users log in through a managed account, they will notice a transparent onboarding screen explaining how the organization manages data and that they are a part of a controlled environment. This level of transparency allows users to understand their data responsibilities and expand the control for your IT group over the browsing experience.

Enhanced Enterprise Protections for iOS

For organizations utilizing Chrome Enterprise, this update brings additional important desktop grade protections through enterprise policies to mobile devices. Organizations can now apply URL filtering on iOS which was previously only available on Android and desktop devices. This will enable organizations to block users from encountering unauthorized websites including unauthorized generative AI tools which can expose organizations to ShadowAI risks.

In addition, Chrome Enterprise’s reporting capabilities also include reporting on Android and iOS, so that mobile security events can be fed into a Google Admin console or third party SIEM tools. This will give an IT department a broader view of mobile browser activities.

With these updates, Chrome on iOS now provides a clean separation between work and life on a single device, maximizing both productivity and data protection. For those whose enterprise is on Chrome Enterprise Premium, it allows enterprise protections while Chrome Enterprise Core has freely available features for essential reporting.
