According to studies, Britain is home to more illegal migrants than any other European nation. Estimates by Oxford researchers state that there are around 745000 illegal migrants in the United Kingdom. This is more than double of what France has (around 300000) and even ahead of Germany that houses 700000 illegal migrants seeking asylum.

The UK home office released a statement saying 973 migrants in 17 small boats crossed over the English channel on Saturday. The total number to cross in 2024 is 26612, up by 5 percent from that of 2023 at the same stage, but 21 percent behind the record 33611 of 2022.

The French coast guard have confirmed the death of 4 migrants who were trying to cross the channel on Saturday including a 2 year old who was trampled to death in a dinghy.

The UK government is under immense pressure to tackle human smuggling gangs responsible for the crisis and to crack down on crime committed by illegal migrants seeking asylum in England. The crimes have increased a record high that one in fifty Albanians in the UK are in prison.

There are up to 745000 people who are estimated to have come in illegally including foreign arrivals who  have overstayed their visa limit, failed asylum seekers who have disappeared and some migrants having crossed into the country through the Channel.

The Labour Party has pledged to smash the human trafficking gangs by setting up Border Security Command to work with UK’s European partners and G7 countries giving UK law enforcement agencies and intelligence agencies new freedom to operate their counter terrorism operations.

Research data sets shows that each year the UK’s illegal migrant population has been rising by 150,000 as migrants come in illegally and get absorbed in the black economy.  The black economy and illegal immigrant population is nearly the size of the population of the UK city of Leeds.
