Baldur’s Gate 3 Maker Criticises the recent layoffs of Bioware

To upgrade themselves to the challenging gaming industry and to focus on the key projects, Bioware has announced the layoffs of two dozens of employees from the company. These changes are adapted following the update of their Studio and the company’s GM Gary McKay said,

“Worked diligently over the past few months to match many of our colleagues with other teams at EA that have open roles”.

Meanwhile, some of the employees had been shifted to other projects after the release of “Dragon Age: The Veilguard”. McKay has also told about their upcoming work which is focused on developing the Mass Effect game about which the trailer had been launched four years ago.

Bioware’s recent layoffs has caused a debate and it is criticised by the Electronic Arts which states that the measures are causing confusion among the publishing director of Larian Studios, Michael Douse.

“To be clear: What I hate about the way layoffs are carried out is that they are implemented before the decision-makers know what to do with a studio. And not as a consequence of a direction that has already been found. That is the case throughout. It is a short-term cost-saving measure at the expense of many people that does not solve a long-term problem” said the publishing director of Larian Studios.

He highlighted that these decisions showcase the lack of ability to make sound strategic decisions at the executive level.

“The discrepancy between venture capital and unemployed game developers is fascinating. Because while some are rising, otters are falling at the same rate” he added.
