Azerbaijan Government Faces Major Cybersecurity Crisis as 95 Officials Fall Victim to Cyberattacks

The government of Azerbaijan is facing a severe cybersecurity crisis following the fact that 95 of its government officials fell victim to cyberattacks. The hacking incidents occurred due to the fact that these officials did not adhere to the simple cybersecurity guidelines and did not take security measures into consideration. This online security meltdown is evidence of the fact that government offices lack the most appropriate security protocols, making them prone to online attacks or violations.

These cyberattacks became so serious to the extent that employees of seven government departments had to report to the State Service of Special Communication and Information Security (XRИTDX). The chief cause of these successful cyberattacks was a bad cyber hygiene of government employees. These authorities did not adhere to the simple cybersecurity protocol and this is why hackers had easy ramifications to them.

The problem of cybersecurity has not been restricted to government workers only. XRÎiana in a confirmation declared that more than 6,200 individuals were victims of diverse cyber attacks in the course of the period of six months in Azerbaijan. This huge figure indicates the extent to which the cybersecurity situation in the country has deteriorated.

In order to deal with this cybersecurity crisis, XRİTDX is currently doing more. The agency is escalating security audits and surveillance operations to enhance the security of the government institutions against cyberattacks. They are doing it to enhance information security systems and to improve the resilience of state organizations against any present and possible cyber threat.

The government understands that, with no implementations of adequate cybersecurity systems, the number of government officials who fall victims of the cyberattacks might continue to increase. This case underlines how serious the improving of cybersecurity training is thus enforcing security measures implemented in every government office in Azerbaijan.
